SEM is

Meaning, you create ads for a particular search engine. Then,
based on how much you are willing to spend, and the relevence
of your content to a searcher's keyword search, your ad can
appear either at the top of the search page or on the side

are the image based, motion ads appearing on most websites. They
are strategically placed on web sites and their particular pages relevent, to a
viewer's interest. You see a lot of banner ads on news websites and on web-based email sites.
